I saw the picture of her new tattoo on Instagram. I thought it was of flames, burning out from the line of her jean shorts and consuming her skin. But I couldn’t really tell, because Instagram doesn’t let you zoom in, so then I had to text her.

The Roseville Galleria was big, sparkly, and beautiful. As I pulled up to the Macy’s parking lot I watched a willowy brunette walk towards the wide, glass doors. She was scantily dressed in plaid and holey pants. I wanted to be her.

Training Bra

My dad used to tell my mom he was afraid I’d never get married because I didn’t fit in. Weird people attracted other weird people; but I wasn’t really weird. I also wasn’t sporty, musical, or artsy. I was messy; my dad wasn’t sure I could find someone to deal with that.
